The International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services (IAFMHS) mourns the passing of Dr. Mike Harris, who died on 13 April 2026.

Dr. Harris was a highly respected leader, colleague, and friend whose contributions to forensic mental health spanned decades.
Through his scholarship, professional service, and commitment to advancing the field, he helped shape forensic mental health practice and research internationally. A dedicated member of IAFMHS for many years, Mike served the Association with distinction in numerous capacities, including as a Board Member and Treasurer. In these roles, he brought wisdom, integrity, and sound judgment, helping to strengthen the organisation and support its continued growth. His stewardship of the Association’s finances was marked by diligence, transparency, and a deep commitment to serving the membership. Beyond his formal positions, Mike received the prestigious Rüdiger Müller-Isberner Award for his contribution to forensic mental health and application of research to practice. Mike was valued for his generosity, collegiality, and willingness to mentor others.
He fostered collaboration across disciplines and countries, embodying the spirit of international partnership that lies at the heart of IAFMHS. His thoughtful contributions to meetings, conferences, and governance enriched the Association and left a lasting impact on colleagues around the world. Mike’s legacy endures through the many professionals he influenced, the advances he helped promote in forensic mental health, and the stronger Association he helped build. He will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and affection.
